I’m Moving the Blog to a New Site!

I am in the process of moving my blog to a new site and my own server.

WordPress.com is a great site for blogging and is a great value for anyone wishing to operate a blog, however, my goals for the blog can’t be totally accommodated with the functionality available on WordPress.com.

Since I love the WordPress platform, I am going to continue running WordPress software on my own server. This change does have a downside. The provided platform on WordPress.com offers so many features that it was an initial shock when I uploaded the WordPress software and discovered that a few of the features I had become accustomed to, such as the WYSIWYG editor were not there!

I have been in the process of “tweaking ” the new site and now feel that it is stable enough to begin posting there. I still have a few kinks to work out, such as getting YouTube videos to work on the new site and other items that are a “no brainer” here on WordPress.com. Now I must truly wear the hat of Webmaster and earn the title in all its meaning!

So here is the new address for BoilingPot U.S.A.

Please come and visit my blog and feel free to comment.

A Definition of Politics and a Commentary on America’s Two Party Political System

Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary defines politics as follows:

Pol-i-tics: a) the art or science of government. b) the art or science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy. c) the art or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government.

If politics is truly the art or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government, the strategists of the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States are truly the grandmasters.

In the game of chess, the object is to checkmate your opponent’s King. Player One with the white pieces moves first and has the advantage against Player Two with the black pieces. White plays to win. Black plays to deny and force a draw, unless White makes a tactical error resulting in a checkmate.

In the game of chess, it is theoretically possible for two grandmaster level players to play to a draw many times in a row. For several decades, the Republican and Democratic parties have been playing to a draw. When one side has the advantage in the political arena of the country, their strategists are more interested in putting their opponents into “perpetual check” instead of finding ways to work together to address the country’s most pressing problems!

Today, the “practice” of partisan politics has become the standard tactic of both parties. The word partisan has a synonym…”follower”!

Is it not time for others to take the lead?

This post is another from my original site on Blogger, but I always felt it was one of my best. On November 7th, 2006, the”pendulum of power” swung back in the direction of The Democratic Party from the Republican side. Will the Democrats (and the G.O.P.) finally remember…ITS ABOUT THE PEOPLE, STUPID! Not corporations, not lobbyist, not unelected special interest groups… us…WE THE PEOPLE!

This blog’s purpose

I felt that I should re-publish this blog’s “mission statement'” so to speak, that was on the old Blogger site. So…

Why the name “Boiling Pot U.S.A.”?

Today, America is changing before our very eyes. However, most people never see change until it has already enveloped them and they are drowning in it!

America has always been known as “The Melting Pot” where many aspects of different cultures blended together to create a unique “whole society” that was Ronald Reagan’s “Shining City on the Hill”. The “melting pot” metaphor no longer applies to our American society of today.

In my first year of college, I took the usual literature course that is required of most college freshmen. One of the first works the class read was “The Power Elite”, by C. Wright Mills. The basic premise of the work is that American society is controlled by a few individuals in the business and political realms that “shape” and control most of the major policy decisions in the country. I initially disagreed with the author’s thesis, but statement that “age brings wisdom” is oh, so true!

In my educational (or indoctrination, if you will) experience, I was given the traditional view of America that was a product of the 1950’s. You know, Mom, apple pie, John Wayne and the cavalry riding to the rescue just in time. This was the popular myth we were all taught in my generation. The reality however, is not as neat and pretty as a Norman Rockwell painting.

I have always been the inquisitive type. About twelve years ago I started to REALLY look into what was happening with this country and you would be really surprised if you knew ALL that I know now. Let’s just say there are those that have “actively” tried to do me harm…and they receive their paychecks from the federal treasury!

However, there is one trend in American society that I am sure of and that is as a country we are no longer the “melting pot”…we have become “The Boiling Pot, U.S.A.”

I got the idea for the name for this weblog from the story that when you try to throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, it knows it and tries to jump out. However, if you put the frog into a pot of cool water and slowly turn up the heat until boiling, the frog will cook and will be oblivious to what is happening to it. This story sums up perfectly what is happening in American society today…we are the frogs and someone’s hand is slowing raising the heat!

The areas explored on this site are politics, business, popular culture and whose hand is on the knob that is turning up the fire. This is one frog that won’t “croak”, but will be speaking out on things that need to be addressed!

Thank you for visiting the site and please come back often!
